4 Signs It’s Time to Upgrade Your Bathroom Fixtures

4 Signs It's Time to Upgrade Your Bathroom Features

For some reason, people don’t usually prioritize bathrooms when it comes to upgrades or renovations. Instead, they focus on the size of closets, updating appliances, or improving light in the master bathroom. We think this is a shame, because bathroom renovations can make a huge difference to your life, too.

Think about it: you spend a decent chunk of time in your bathroom each day. Plus, you can go such a long way with so little effort! If you’ve been on the fence about making changes to your bathroom, ask yourself if you’ve noticed any of these four signs. If you’ve noticed any of these signs, then it’s probably time to commit to making your bathroom better. You won’t regret it!

Your faucet or showerhead won’t stop dripping.

According to the EPA, the average home’s leaks add up to almost 10,000 gallons of water waste each year. That includes leaky faucets. Not only will dripping faucets drive you crazy, they’ll also drive up your water bill significantly. Usually, faucets start leaking because the washer or gasket inside has worn out enough that it can’t be repaired.

If your shower head is leaking, the connection between the showerhead and pipe stem has probably loosened. If tightening it doesn’t fix things, then there might be rust or degradation keeping it from tightening enough. If your faucet or showerhead has rusted that much, the best thing to do is just replace it.

Things are looking dingy or rusty.

Bathrooms tend to be quite humid, so they’re often harder on fixtures than most parts of a home. Metal fixtures, in particular, are considerably more vulnerable to rusting in bathrooms. Humidity also fosters mold growth, particularly in cracks and crevices that never really dry out.

Mold, rust, and other wear-and-tear can all accumulate and put your fixtures under a lot of strain. If you notice your pipes or fixtures looking rusted or damaged, then it might be time for an upgrade. Updating and renovating your bathroom can be a great way to improve the overall cleanliness of your home.

Something’s loose… and you can’t figure out how to tighten it.

If you can’t tighten the connections on your plumbing fixtures, then you have a problem. Fixtures resist tightening when their connections have become either totally stripped or totally rusted out.

Either way, rusted or stripped connections just won’t work the way they’re supposed to any more. You can temporarily staunch a joint leak using duct tape… but eventually you’ll just need to replace the connection. The sooner you do that, the better.

You just want a nicer bathroom!

This is a legitimate sign, too! If your bathroom bums you out, then maybe it’s time you spruced it up! There’s nothing wrong with wanting to upgrade your bathroom–especially when you can make water-saving choices while you’re at it!

WaterSense fixtures can help you save a lot of money on your water bill almost as soon as you install them. You use a lot of water in your bathroom every day, so you’ll feel this difference even sooner. If you want to feel a lot better about your bathroom, maybe now’s the time to commit to an upgrade.
